The key to success? It’s simple, really. Anyone will give you the same answer: find out what you’re good at and do that. There you have it, the shortest blog post ever—just kidding, of course. Because sometimes you just need a little push in the right direction. For me, a traineeship with ORMIT really helped me find my way. The result? A job I love.

My road to a traineeship at ORMIT

After college, I experienced your typical post-college “what now” moment. I studied economics, which is a very broad field and I had no clue what to do next. But I really wanted to find out, so when I heard about ORMIT’s traineeships, I was intrigued.

What’s it all about? The ORMIT traineeship is a programme where you get to develop your leadership skills and experience different jobs with several employers. On top of that, it includes tons of workshops and guidance sessions with a personal coach. Oh, and you get paid for it. Pretty cool, right? So I signed up!

A programme that’s right for you

About halfway through, I realised that I’d prefer to work in commercial banking. A little sooner than expected … So, I asked to be transferred: I had heard that ORMIT had a traineeship to become a Relationship Manager at BNP Paribas Fortis. I really felt like that would be a better fit for me.

That’s the cool thing about ORMIT

They really want you to succeed. And they give you the opportunity to try, fail and repeat – with a focus on personal development and soft skills. It’s not just about hard facts. It’s about learning how to communicate with others and how to negotiate.

That’s why I wasn’t afraid to ask if I could switch. Before entering the ORMIT programme, I would get scared easily and just accept things. Now I know when to be assertive and ask the difficult questions.

So, my best advice if you’re experiencing that “what now” moment?

Take your time to find out what gives you energy. Find sparring partners to discuss options and ideas, but don’t let yourself be guided by external factors or other people. Be true to yourself. It’s really the only way to go.

As for me: I now have a job I love. I know myself, my strengths and my pitfalls. I’ve received compliments about my positive mindset and my professional attitude. And I’ve got ORMIT to thank for it. Sounds good? Well, have a look at ORMIT's traineeships. Take a chance and you’ll soon be ready to conquer the world!
